CBN the cable network was renamed The Family Channel in the late eighties, then sold to Fox in 1997. Fox, in turn, sold it to ABC in 2001. The network now runs non-family-friendly junk like the fraternity-themed series Greek, but is still contractually obligated by the terms of the sale to run The 700 Club in the middle of the night (with a disclaimer) and to retain the word "Family" in its name (thus scotching ABC plans to renamed the network XYZ).
