“The Christian right is always locally autonomous, and they don’t take direction from their presumed leaders. I don’t think this will signal a mass stampede by the evangelicals to Giuliani,” said Danielle Vinson, a political science professor at Furman University.

This can't be right. I have been told by no less than the Washington Post that we on the Christian right are "poor, uneducated, and easy to command."

Whatever support among evangelicals he has, he already had. Robertson doesn't add much to his campaign. That was my main point. I agree that Robertson and Giuliani share gonzo foreign policy ideas, and this is clearly the basis for their alliance. But just because something is explicable doesn't make it any less bizarre. Endorsing Giuliani for President is inherently bizarre (i.e., very odd).

You speak as if Giuliani lacks Evangelical support. The leadership are confirming what's happening at the base level.

Robertson's endorsement is not bizarre. Overlooked due to respectability concerns is that Robertson is a big time Zionist, and Rudy is the most pro-Israel in the bunch.
