The Red Sox are dominating the Rockies 13-1 in the top of the ninth. Fortunately, this is the first of the first two games in Boston, so perhaps Colorado will be warmed up by the next one.
Even if you aren’t a Colorado fan, do you really want to see another Red Sox championship? I mean, c’mon, they’ve already had their quota for this century. Twice in the same decade would be unseemly.

The Red Sox are the new Yankees, with a bloated payroll and an a fan base marked by a sense of whiny entitlement. Go Rockies!

I should like to see what the high-payroll franchises could do under an NFL-style regime of salary caps and revenue sharing, given that the Sox and Yankees tend to purchase talent from smaller teams, once those teams can no longer afford to retain that talent. A baseball world in which franchises with decent minor-league systems, like Cleveland, Minnesota, Miami, Colorado, etc. contended with some regularity would be more interesting.

It was fairly predictable. Facing Beckett plus 8 days off against that loaded lineup equals a buzzsaw. The real test will be tonight. Go Rockies!

I saw Game One as near a must-win for the Sox. They simply can’t afford to lose with Beckett starting. It was a pretty not-so-fun way for the Rockies to lose, but I really don’t think it’s a big deal. Everybody knew before Game One that both teams are capable of hanging ten runs on anybody; now we still know that.
It wouldn’t be an Appalachian State-level shock if the Rockies get to Schilling on short rest.
As to the larger issue, salary caps, salary floors, and revenue sharing, please.
That said, go Sox.
I’m a Sox fan like my father is, and his father before him. I’ll be damned if rational argumentation is going to convince me otherwise.
As a liberal, though, I keep my jingoism confined to my favorite sports teams.

Yes, that’s why when we’re down 3 games to one, the Red Sox rally, because they’re the new Yankees; and because we fans are whiny and entitled. I did lots of whining on my own blog, for example, not like these people.
Sheesh.
If you really want a taste of Red Sox nation, complete with comments, then read this.

I have been always been a little uncomfortable with the fact that the Red Sox won the 2004 championship through the backdoor means of the wild card, and I hope this year will see a world championship in a year in which they finished first. Although even after that, of course, I will continue to root for them, as I am sure you would if there is ever an Astros dynasty. (Hey, if it can happen to us, it can happen to you.)

I have always been a bit uncomfortable that the Red Sox won the championship at all - it represented a great reversal of The Way Things Have Always Been and Shall Be, World Without End. And then the ChiSox, too? At least the Cubs and Phillies are still cursed. In any event, I’m rooting for the Rockies, though they didn’t look good last night.
