Thanks to all of you for your comments. Thanks very much, Steve, for your kind remarks. Ross has been very good about providing many links to my work. It would be fun if someone like me could become a blogger at The Atlantic, but I certainly don't mind operating separately. Independent blogging allows you to push out in directions, if you so desire, that an established position makes slightly more difficult. If I say something 95% of people think is crazy (which I may do from time to time), it brings no grief to anyone but me. If I say things that people find reasonable and interesting, they link to them and the message gets out there one way or another.

The Atlantic seems to be pretty good about allowing their people to say what they like, but I can imagine that it is not necessarily true of all such operations.

Wilson was worse than W.

What proves it is the number of graduate institutes and scholarships named after St. Woodrow. You've got to do big-time damage to get that kind of recognition.

Great post. Wish I could come up with a significant point on which to disagree - but I don't think so.

Glad to see Ross Douthat giving you due recognition. Were there any justice in the world, you would soon be posting at *The Atlantic* alongside him & Andrew Sullivan & Matthew Yglesias.
