					<description>What passes for "official conservatism" these days is a total fraud and complete joke. I will at least say on Sullivan's behalf that he saw the cliff while the NR crowd and Glenn Reynolds, etc. charged right ahead.</description>

					<description>Blame it on P.J. O'Rourke.  He developed his sarcastic, detached satirical style so well, he created a number of lesser imitators.  At school, all the aspiring conservative writers I knew wanted to go out an publish their own version of &lt;i&gt;Republican Party Reptile&lt;/i&gt;.  It was the classic case of having your cake and eating it, too.  You could be both conservative and hip.</description>
