Yes, it was a joke, and no offense taken. As my question implied, I am quite familiar with the reigning etiquette of the blogosphere, so I always appreciate that Larison's loveable crankiness still manages to be more cordial than what you usually find around said sphere (though Marcotte is extreme even by that poor standard).

Yes, I see that now. I'm sorry to have become a bit aggressive in that comment. Some other blogger recently oddly took one of my anti-Giuliani posts to be an attempt to defend Giuliani against pro-life criticisms (!), and he even called me a Republican (quel horreur!), so I think I must have been a bit agitated when I wrote the earlier comment.

I think kranza was trying to make a joke and not to insult you.
What is truly sad and scary is that Marcotte makes clear in the comments that when she says "generally interpreted," she does not merely mean by feminists or gender studies professors or latter-day Gnostics; she really thinks this is the traditional Christian interpretation! She is hateful but, in my opinion, also pitiable.

Yes, of course, I am familiar with her past "work." I have already written on her past blasphemies. Had I not been aware of that, I would not have cared one way or the other what she had to say. To my mind, this statement was nearly as offensive as the more obviously vulgar and crass things she has written before, and it demonstrated a risible lack of understanding at the same time.

She obviously can be more offensive, but can she manage to demonstrate such impressive ignorance and anti-Christian bigotry as well as she has here in just a couple lines? Actually, she probably can, and she probably has. Perhaps I was beating around the bush when I asked this question. The point of saying that was to indicate just how offensive and wrong the remark was.

And if instead it happened a la Zeus taking on the form of a man or an animal and having actual intercourse with a woman, what would she say then?
