The comedy continues:

The well-traveled Saban said his next stop would not be another school but retirement to Lake Burton in north Georgia, where he has a home.

It's not illegal to breach a contract; you just have to pay the damages. In any case, when's the last time a college sued a decamping coach?

As for a coach's promise to stay on for five or seven years, you can put about as much credence in that as in a Paris Hilton engagement.

The idea of "truth" or, heck, even a contract in pro sports is a joke. No coach or player is really under contract (when was the last time a coach actually completed their contract?), and Saban is hardly the first coach to say "I'm not leaving, no way, no how" then turn around and walk away. One sportswriter suggested that all coaches simply say "yeah, I might be interested in making more money and winning more games," which be, you know, the truth.

I suspect if he doesn't turn around 'bama's fortunes quickly, he'll find another willing university to employ his services (likely after he says "there is no way I'll leave Alabama"). He likes winning too much.
